2.4 Eukaryotic Cell Structure Flashcards
1
Q
What is the role of the SER?
A
- to synthesise lipids (fats), steroids and carbohydrates
2
Q
What is the role of lysosomes?
A
- lysosomes are a type of vesicle which contains hydrolytic enzymes that break down dead organelles and pathogens that enter the cell
3
Q
What is the role of ribosomes?
A
- the site of protein synthesis
4
Q
What is the role of the cytoskeleton?
A
- move (organelles) e.g. vesicles
- move the cilia/flagella/undulipodia to help move the cell
- enable cytokinesis to take place in cell division
- support the cell by providing scaffolding and help it to maintain shape
- movement of chromosomes/chromatids/(m)RNA
