2 Nuclear membrane Flashcards
Function
- Also referred to as Nuclear Envelope.
- Encases/Protects the genetic material inside the cell and the nucleus
- Small pores over the outside called nuclear pores regulate/allow macromolecules such as proteins, RNA, water, ATP, and some to move into amd out of the nucleus
Structure
Made up of two bilayers of phospholipids.
The Nuclear membrane is separated into 2 parts: Inner Membrane and Outer Membrane: They act as barriers and prevent the of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
Nuclear Lamina
Nuclear Pores
Outer Membrane
The outer membrane works with the endoplasmic reticulum, transportation of protein, and are both covered in ribosomes as they are the locations of protein synthesis
Nuclear Lamina
filaments that give structure and support to the nuclear membrane
They are found the perinuclear space
perinuclear space
space between 2 membranes
Nuclear Pores
small holes cover the nuclear membrane and enable material to move in/out of the nucleus. They also connect the inner and outer membrane.
Found? Why?
- They are found in all Eukaryotic cells
- The Membrane surrounds the nucleus and protects the DNA from substances that may enter from the cytoplasm
