2/21/25 Flashcards
what is the claperon equation
it tells us the slope of a phase coexistence line
for a liquid gas line, the slope is always
positive
for a liquid gas line, an increase in temperature will resultin
an increase in vapor pressure
what is the standard boiling point
it is the boiling point when the vapor pressure is one bar
what is the normal boiling point
it is the boiling point when the vapor pressure is one atm
what are colligative properties
they pertain to solutions with variable solvents and nonvolatile solutes
give an example of a solution with colligative properties
water and salt or sugar
what does the colligative property depend on
it depends on the concentration of the solute not it’s identity
what are the four colligative properties
vapor pressure lowering, freezing point depression, boiling point elevation, osmotic pressure
