Q

how do barometers work

A

an upside down tube is pressed into a bowl of liquid, the liquid is then suspended up into the tube due to the pressure from the atmosphere pushing on the liquid. The gravity is also pulling the liquid down, so the pressure can be found by relating this balance to the height of the suspended liquid above the liquid in the bowl

Q

what does boyle’s law state

A

it states that at a constant temperature, the volume is inversely related to pressure

as volume goes up, pressure goes down
as volume goes down, pressure goes up

(P1V1=P2V2)

Q

what does Charle’s law state

A

it states that at a constant pressure, the volume is proportional to the temperature

as temperature goes up, the volume goes up
as the temperature goes down, the volume goes down

(V1/T1=V2/T2)
