16 - ITEM ANALYSIS Flashcards
- A statistical test that is important in the development of test questions.
- Evaluates based on its item quality, item sets, and relationship between and among test items.
- Essentially appropriate in the multiple-choice format of test questions.
Item Analysis
Applied for pre-test data
Norm-referenced test
Applied for post-test data
Criterion-referenced test
● Review the students’ understanding and ability to answer a question or item
● Measure students’ knowledge or comprehension accurately
● Assesses a question if it is valuable
● Serves as a guide for improving the test construction skills of an instructor
Purpose of Item Analysis
The distractor analysis determines the effectiveness of the incorrect answers/ distractors to the quality of Multiple-Choice items
Effectiveness of Distractors
measures the relationship between the student’s performance on a test item and the overall score of students
Index of Discrimination (point biserial)
Discrimination index (D) may be computed using:
D = No. of correct scores - correct answers
- determines if the students have learned the concept being tested.
- It measures the percentage of
students who get the item correctly
Index of Difficulty (p-value)
mean score of each item and the relative
frequency of choosing the item correctly.
Item Difficulty
how to compute for item difficulty
difficulty = no of students who answered an item correctly / total no of students X 100
easier item
Higher Difficulty Index
difficult item
Lower Difficulty Index
