What is material deprivation?
a lack of material resources that will impact a child’s life

live in economically depressed areas, high unemployment low wages

racial discrimination in the labour and housing market
How big of an impact does material deprivation and FSM truly have
Not as big as the ethnicity divide creates.
however all FSM groups perform worse at school anyways.
What does John Rex 1986 say about racial discrimination
leads to social exclusion and worsens the poverty faced by ethnic minorities
in housing, ethnic minorities are forced into substandard accommodations than white people of the same class.
How does David Mason 2003 describe racism?

Wood et al 2010 sent 1000 job applications in of similar experience. 1 in 16 ethnic minority applicants were selected, but 1 in 9 white candidates.

How does racism in wider society impact educational achievement of minority ethnic groups
prohibited from jobs means not able to achieve as highly. barred from society based on skin colour, so can’t progress as highly in the world. students don’t see as many role models of ethnic groups so don’t aspire to achieve any higher than the low expectations placed on them
