14. Circular Motion Flashcards
For objects traveling in a straight line, we talked about different variables that influenced motion, define and include the equations.
Distance/Displacement: Change in position, Δx, Δx =x2 - x1 , m (meters).
Velocity: Change in position over change in time, Vx Vy - V = Δx / Δt - m/s
Acceleration: Change in velocity over change in time, ax ay a = ΔV / ΔT - m/s2
Forces: Push or pull - F - F=ma - N
What is the speed of the motion an object in a circle?
a constant speed.

d or x for a circle can be thought of as the…
circumference or at least part of it.

[S-E-H-A-E]
What is the equation and the unit of a circumference?
c = 2πr and m

[S-E-H-A-E]
What is the equation and the unit of Period?
T= time to do the # of cycles / the # of cycles and the unit of period is “s”
ENCODE
S-E-H-A-E
What is the equation and the unit of frequency?
ƒ = #cycles / 1 second and Hz
Define tangential velocity
tangential velocity is the linear velocity of a single point at a single point in time. For this reason, this velocity will always be tangent to the circle.

What is the equation for tangential velocity?
VTAN = 2πr / T or VTAN = 2πrf
Differentiate centripetal acceleration and centrifugal acceleration together.
centripetal acceleration is the acceleration of an object towards the center of the circle while centrifugal acceleration is an acceleration outwards the circle which is fictitious because it is not real!

S-E-H-A-E
What is the equation and the unit of centripetal acceleration?
ac = VTAN2 / r and m/s2
If we have a mass and are experiencing an acceleration that means we are experiencing a FORCE, what are the equations of this force?
Fc=mac or Fc=mVTAN2 / r
