unemployment reduced. (1926 was 2 million, 1928 only 1.3 million)
in 1927 unemployment inssurance act charrged over 16 million workers 3% of wages in return for 60 marks per week in unemployent, aswell as sick benafits

Work week had shortened (from 1925 to 1927, shortened by 4 hours)
and wages rose by 25 from 1925 to 1928

more houses were built
(1925) 15% rent tax helped fund building of new houses. Resulting private companies building 37,00 new homes and new building associations build 64000 homes by 1929

young poeples aspirations were more often met. in 1928 the amount of students in higher education had increased to 110000 from first world war
What were the changes for women in the weimer republic?
-Politics: women given right to vote (1918), article 109 stated; women and men has equal rights, marriage equal and women can get any job
-WorkLife: paid 33% less than men, expected to give up work once married, made progress in medicine profession doctors rose from2500 to 5000 between 1925 and 1932.(36% women at work)
-Leisure: greater financial dependence, became ‘new women’ who had short hair, smoked, and liberal sexual attitudes. this caused birth rate to fall, only 80 births per year in 1925. increased divorce, from 27 per 100,000 to 60 per 100,000

-some women felt freedom. Others found change a daunting challenge
-some accepted women role changes. whilst some men though ‘new women’ threatened mens role
-traditionalist/conservatives complained that women should be mothers. instead of challenge patriarchy

Art was expressionist, painted which was very critical on german society. Like painter Otto Dix.
Otto Dix work included falling standards in behaviour in German night life

Desighns involved futuristic look.

films became more popular. Germany created the world first horror film, directed by Fritz lang in 1926. by 193o sound was in cinema, and by 1932, 3800 cinemas showed fil with sound.
why was there opposition towards arts in weimer republic?
left wingers KPD said funding money spent on extravagance, not helping poeple
