  • Controlling and demands obedience without considering the child’s point of view
  • Child learns that suppressing their emotions and following their duties is the way to get through the day. They become obedient to get love from their parents
  • Due to not allowing to decide for themselves, they don’t know what they want later in life. They follow what their parents want later in life but they maybe unhappy on the inside

Permissive

A
  • Loving but don’t exert control over their child. No rules
  • Grows up completely without borders. They grew up without conflict and never learned to control their emotions. Getting whatever they wanted turns them into a “Bad Loser”
  • Later in life they act inconsiderate and doesn’t know their limits

  • Firm but loving parents
  • Encourage independence within limits.
  • Children believe some things are difficult but parents provide all the support they need to get through. They develop strength to endure hardships and follow their interests and passions. In class they bravely express their own opinions in an appropriate manner. He can show his emotions and act freely.
  • Agrees to rules later in life after they have been discussed.

Uninvolved

A
  • Neglect their child and often uninterested in their own child
  • Child realizes that it doesn’t matter what she does because nobody cares anyways. Lack of attention leads to lack of trust in self and others. They become insecurely attached and unable to form healthy relationships. They develop negative images of themselves. To stop feeling unworthy of love, they try to feel nothing at all.

Over-Involved Parents

Snow Plows - Remove obstacles out of kids path
Helicopter Parents - Hover about and micromanage every aspect of child’s life.

  • Later in life do not learn how to overcome challenges by themselves. These children don’t like to solve difficult problems and may procrastinate when something requires effort.
