1.2 -- Homeostasis Flashcards
What does an integrating center do and where is it normally found?
Orchestrates an appropriate response and often found in the central nervous system
What is an effector?
An organ or tissue that acts to maintain homeostasis
What are the seven parts of a feedback loop?
- Stimulus
- Sensor
- Input Signal
- Integrating Center
- Output Signal
- Target
- Response
A negative feedback loop is when the response what the stimulus? It also can not prevent the initial signal.
Opposes
A positive feedback loop is when the response blanks the stimulus and an outside factor must be used to shut off the cycle?
Reinforces
Are hormones an example of intrinsic or extrinsic regulation?
Extrinsic as they go to other organs
A steady state does not mean it’s an equal balance. An example of this is three elements in the extracellular and intracellular fluid. Which two are found in high amounts in the ECF and which one is found in high amounts in the ICF?
ECF –Sodium, chloride
ICF – Potassium
