1.2 Graphs Flashcards
What is standard deviation?
A measure of the amount of variation of a random variable expected about its mean.
What does a low standard deviation indicate?
The values tend to be close to the mean of the set.
What does a high standard deviation indicate?
The values are spread out over a wider range.
What is length?
Span of an object
What is mass?
Amount of matter
What is volume?
Amount of air space
What is temperature?
Degree of hotness
What is an independent variable?
The variable controlled by the experimenter that is not affected by other variables.
What is a dependent variable?
The variable that is affected by the independent variable and measured in the experiment.
When making a graph, where does the independent variable go?
x-axis
When making a graph, where does the dependent variable go?
y-axis
How can you tell that a graph’s relationship is direct?
The line of best fit is going up.
What is a direct relationship in a graph?
The variables increase together.
What is an indirect relationship in a graph?
As one variable increases, the other variable decreases
What is a constant relationship in a map?
The variables have no effect on eachother.
