10.3 flashcards
What are the stages of meiosis in order?
interphase 1, prophase 1, metaphase 1, anaphase 1, telophase/cytokinesis 1, prophase 2, metaphase 2, anaphase 2, telophase/cytokinesis 2
What happens during interphase 1?
cell prepares for division
What happens during prophase 1?
crossing over occurs and tetrads form
What happens during metaphase 1?
tetrads line up in the middle, spindle fibers attach and independent assortment occurs
What happens during anaphase 1?
tetrads are pulled apart by spindle fibers
What happens during thelophase/cytokinesis 1?
Two cells are formed each with 2 chromosome pairs
What happens during prophase 2?
spindle fibers start to form
What happens during metaphase 2?
chromosomes line up
What happens during anaphase 2?
chromosomes are pulled apart to opposite sides of the cells
What happens duirng telophase/cytokinesis 2?
4 cells are formed with different chromosome combinations
At what stage does independent assortment take place?
Metaphase 1
At what stage does crossing over take place?
Prophase 1
What is a gamete?
an organism’s reproductive cells
What is a haploid?
one copy of each chromosome
