What is the function of mRNA?
contains code for amino acid sequence
What is the function of tRNA?
transfer amino acids, contains anticodons that pair with mRNA
What is the function of rRNA?
joins amino acids to synthesize protein
What is a mutation?
change in the base sequence in a molecule of DNA
What is point mutation?
the substitution of a single base in DNA
What is silent/synonymous mutation?
a mutation that does not affect outcome of translation and protein is still the same
What is missense mutation?
a mutation that results in one amino acid being different
What Is nonsense mutation?
a mutation that results in a stop codon and barely any amino acids are coded in
What is frameshift mutation?
a mutation that results in a shift in the reading frame and changes everything downstream
