How did France prepare for the war?
Had a Levee en Masse, in need of more fighters. The decree stated that all men 18-25 must give immediate military service. Women to make tents and serve in hospitals ect.
How did France use technology to their advantage?
Supported the development of the telegraph. Used balloonists to scout.
What revolution ideas were used on the battlefield?
Failure to follow through a victory was a crime, 17 generals were executed. Promoted younger generals with revolutionary commitment.
Who were the key members of the CPS?
Robespierre, Carnot, Saint Just and Couthon.
How did the improvements in the war impact the CPS?
Could argue it was their revolutionary gusto that enabled this great change to the law.
What was the state of both the internal and external wars by the end of 1793?
Had defeated Vendeean rebels. Had won siege in Dunkirk and forced the Austrians and Prussians to withdraw from the Rhine. Clearly winning.
How did the CPS dominate the Convention?
Persecuted loads. Labelled enemies royalists and Girondin. Convention had no power and waited for the CPS to make decisions. CPS controlled legislation.
What legislation was caused by the Sans-Culotte?
Established Sans-Culotte as paramilitary . Were raised in Paris and paid, armed and placed under military command.
Law of Suspects, lists of suspects written up and anyone can be arrested.
New law of General Maximum set a maximum price for goods.
Why was this a ‘Terror’?
Changed the laws, everyone was a suspect and greater arming/radicalisation of the Sans-Culotte.
