1.1 Intro to Biology Flashcards
What does the PMC model stand for?
Program, Metabolism, Container
What is the CER Model?
Stands for Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning. It is the components of scientific argumentation.
What is the main thing that the P in the PMC model stands for?
Program, it is used to regulate growth.
What is the PMC model used for?
Used to classify living things.
What are biotic things?
Living things
What are abotic things?
Non-Living things
Why do living things need to have a container?
To seperate internal and external things, it also controls conditions.
What is the difference between a biome and a biosphere?
Biome is made up of similar ecosystems, while biosphere included all the different ecosystems; earth.
What are examples of biotic things?
Human, Corn, Chicken egg, Sunflower seed.
What is the smallest thing on the levels of organization?
An Atom
Which is more larger, Community or Population? Why?
A community is more larger because it contains all the different species, rather then a population being all the similar species.
What is the claim and one piece of evidence in these lines: There was a missing poster posted of the cat which means the cat was missing. The cat was missing because the dog killed the cat and is covering up the murder.
Claim: The cat was missing because the dog killed the cat and is covering up the murder.
Evidence 1: There was a missing poster of the cat.
What are the main things you need in your reasoning?
You need to justfiy how the piece of evidence is connected to your claim. A link between the two.
What is the largest thing on the levels of organization and why?
Biosphere: It is all the different ecosystems around the world and makes up the planet.
