4.2 DNA Replication Flashcards
1
Q
Okazaki fragments are glued together
A
Ligase
2
Q
DNA Strands are separated
A
Helicase
3
Q
DNA nucleotides bases are added
A
DNA polymerase III
4
Q
RNA primer is replaced by DNA
A
DNA polymerase I
5
Q
RNA primer is laid down
A
Primase
6
Q
What is the difference between DNA polymerase III and I?
A
III is the main builder and goes at a faster rate. I is the editor and repairs the mistakes and goes at a slower rate.
7
Q
Which can DNA be made?
A
DNA can only be made in a 5’ to 3’ direction
8
Q
On the leading strand…
A
DNA polymerase is moving towards the fork 5’ to 3’ (leading strand) 3’ to 5’ (parental strand). It also copies continuously.
9
Q
On the lagging strand…
A
DNA polymerase moves away from the fork making it discontinuous.
