Protecting a derailed Train, the Driver of a derailed train must?

A
  • RTAF if necessary
  • Carry out a full cab unattended
  • Take DRA, portable, hand signals/light
  • Ensure Red marker lights are illuminated on the train
  • Proceed 500 meters in the required direction (TC will let you know)
  • or first fixed signal protecting your train within 500m
  • Display your red hand signals/lights
  • Inform TC that the track is protected

Why may you not be able to couple your derailed train to a relief train?

A

Because your train might not be in a condition to travel.

If you are unable to communicate with TC after a derail, and the leading portion is fit to run, what do you do?

A

The Driver MUST secure the rear portion and run forward to the location in advance to establist communication with the TC.
