A

A driver does not have to prep a side of a train which is inaccessable, nor are they held responsible for mechanical condition or personal injury that arrises from this side.

This is called “Metro business risk”.

  • Check that the points are set to a vacant siding (check for 3 car consist)
  • After stabling a train a driver must use the hand points to set the points to an vacant siding (if there is one)

What are the two dirrerent hand point infrastructure..things?

A

WSA - Willets Spring Activated point lever. (Most common)

CCW - Coates Cushion Weighted Hand Points

When travelling through facing points of a CCW a CE must hold the leaver the entire time.

What are siding protections and why are they used?

A

Siding protections are Hayes Derail or Catching point.

Hayes derail will derail a runaway train (Picture)

Catching points look like points, works like Hayes derail and will derail a runaway train

It is the drivers responsibilty to check these are in the correct positions.

Who’s reposinibilty is it to ensure siding protection devices are removed before the passage of a train?

A

The officer in charge or Signaller.

However, the driver are also to ensure the siding protection devices are in the off position upon arrival to or departure of siding.

When shunting in a siding, how far from any buffers, baulks or other stables trains should you be?

What is placed when a train needs to be stopped in a very specific position?

A

1 to 2 meter
