1: UIII V3 Flashcards
what is the name of V3?
mandibular division
How does the madibular division exit the cranial vault?
foramen ovale as a large sensory root and smal motor root
What roots combine to form the mandibular division in the infratemporal fossa?
large sensory and small motor roots
What does the mandibular division carry?
sensory and motor info
What sensory info is carried in the mandibular division?
skin over mandible, posterior cheek, and posterior temple; sensation from the mucosa of the lower oral cavity and cheeks
What motor information is carried in the mandibular division?
8 muscles including the muscles of mastication
What two branches are given off in the infratemporal region?
recurrent meningeal branch
medial pterygoid nerve
How does the recurrent meningeal nerve reenter the cranium?
through the foramen spinosum
What sensory info does the recurrent meningeal nerve carry?
from the dura of the middle cranial fossa, anterior crainial fossa, and calvarium
What kind of info does the medial pterygoid nerve carry?
motor info
What does the medial pterygoid nerve innervate?
medial pterygoid muscle
What kind of other motor fibers are supplied and where do they pass?
pass through otic ganglia
supply the tensor veli palatine and tensor tympani
After the infratemporal fossa what does the mandibular nerve divide into?
predominantly motor anterior division and predominantly sensory posterior division
What does the anterior division give rise to?
massester nerve
deep temporal nerve
lateral pterygoid nerve
buccal nerve
What type of info does the masseter nerve carry?
MOTOR: masseter muscle
SENSORY: tempromandibular joint
What are the branches of the deep temporal nerve?
anterior and posterior
What do the anterior and posterior deep temporal nerves supply?
temporalis muscle
What does the lateral pterygoid nerve supply?
lateral pterygoid muscle
** What is the major sensory division of the anterior mandibular nerve?
Buccal nerve
What does the buccal nerve supply?
cheek (inside and outside) and buccal gingiva of the molars
Which branch of the mandibular division is larger?
the posterior division
Which mandibular division is primarily sensory?
posterior division
Which mandibular division is primarily motor?
anterior division
What are the divisions of the posterior mandibular division?
auriculotemporal nerve
lingual nerve
inferior alveolar nerve
