1: UII CN IV Flashcards
What type of nerve is CN IV?
Somatic motor
What does CN IV supply?
Superior oblique muscle
Where is the trochlear nucleus located?
Periaqueductal Gray just caudal to the oculomotor nuclei
What does the trochlear nuclei give rise to?
Lower motor neurons that cross in the midbrain just inferior to the inferior colliculi
What is unique about how CN IV travels?
It crosses and travels POSTERIOR
What part of the cerebral cortex sends axons to the trochlear nucleus?
BMA 8
Where else does the trochlear nucleus receive fibers from?
Superior colliculus and medial longitudinal fasciculus
How does the trochlear nerve travel after leaving CNS?
Curves around the brain stem and continues within the lateral all of cavernous sinus
How does the trochlear nerve enter the orbit?
Through superior orbital fissure (superior oblique)
What does CN IV communicate with?
Cavernous plexus
What is the trochlear nerve named after?
Pulley like mechanism on the superomedial aspect of the orbit that the superior oblique passes through
What does the superior oblique cause the eye to do?
Look down and out, depresses eyeball
What is the name of CN IV?
Trochlear nerve
