1: UIII V2 Flashcards
What is the name of V2?
maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve
What type of function does V2 have?
sensory only
Where does the maxillary division receive sensory info from?
skin btwn eyes and mouth, over cheeks and temples, mucosa lining the maxillary sinuses, nasal conchae, palate, and upper gingiva
What are the four divisions of the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve?
Middle meningeal nerve
Zygomatic nerve
Ganglionic branches
Infraorbital nerve
Where is the middle meningeal nerve given off?
before the division exits the round foramen
What does the middle meningeal nerve supply?
the meninges of the middle cranial fossa (Dura)
How does the zygomatic nerve enter the orbit?
through the inferior orbital fissure
What are the two branches of the zygomatic nerve?
communicating branch
zygomaticotemporal nerve
What kind of fibers does the communicating branch carry?
postganglionic parasympathetic from the ptergopalatine ganglion and the lacrimal gland
What brings preganglionic sympathetics to the pergopalatine ganglion?
CN#7
What does the zygomaticotemporal nerve supply?
skin over temple
How many ganglionic branches are given off from the maxillary division?
2-3
What do the ganglionic braches carry?
sensory info from the upper pharynx, nasal cavity and concha, palate
What do the ganglionic branches pass through?
pterygopalatine ganglion (NO SYNAPSE)
What does the infraorbital nerve pass through?
the infraorbital fissure and infraorbital canal
what does the infraorbital nerve supply?
lower eyelid, skin over upper jaw, and maxillary sinus
What does the infraorbital nerve give rise to before entering the infraorbital canal?
posterior, anterior, and middle superior alveolar nerves
What do the posterior, anterior, and middle alveolar nerves supply?
sensory info from teeth
What is found just superior to the alveoli?
superior dental plexus
How are the postganglionic parasympathetic fibers from the pterygopalatine ganglion distributed?
SENSORY to lacrimal gland
maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve
Postganglionic sympathetic fibers from where pass through the ptergopalatine ganglion?
superior cervical ganglion and sensory fibers
