Is GABA a nt or a hormone?
nt
inhibitory
Blood cells come from…
the mesoderm
Neural tube forms the
Brain, Spinal cord
CNS
Neural crest forms the
- dorsal root ganglia of spinal cord
- melanocytes (pigment producing cells)
- calcitonin producing cells of thyroid
multipotent
Endoderm forms…
Respiratory lining and GI tract
Parkinson’s
Damage to substantia nigra - layer of cells below basal ganglia- dopamine production decreases
tremors
glabellar reflex- tap head, keep blinking
Frontal lobe normally
inhibits primitive motor reflexes
adults w/ neurological diseases
-exhibit primitive reflexes when injure upper motor neurons (spinal cord, motor tract) OR demyelination (like in MS) OR frontal lobe damage
Startle response
loud noise - flinch - protect neck & eyes
Rooting reflex
breast feeding; cheek
Stepping reflex
Learn to walk by patting ground
Moro reflex
re-establish grip & cry when sudden head movement- prevent grip loss from mother
Past- arboreal (tree-animals)
Schizophrenia
will NOT be comorbid w/ Parkinsons’ bc of opposite causes/etiology- low vs high dopamine
Parkinson’s (low dopamine)could be paired w/ alzheimers or dementia (low ACh), Depression (low serotonin), and Pain (low endorphins)
Drunk act
- slurred speech due to cerebellum damage; Broca’s damages speech production but not slurred speech
- uncoordinated movements- cerebellum
- spinal cord damage = paralysis
- alcohol also impairs the cerebellum
