Where do you captive bolt stun a cow
Hold firmly in direct contact at right angle to skull directed through upper brain towards brainstem.
Position: Middle of forehead at intersection of two imaginary lines between the eyes and centre of the base of the opposite horn.
Why are adult pigs generally stunned electrically rather than with a captive bolt
Older sows and boars may also have a ridge of bone running down the centre of the forehead.
This may prevent the bolt penetrating the brain cavity and the pig will not be stunned effectively.
