What was the main theory of chemical ecology from the start?
A
Chemicals in plants were waste products from metabolism, the second metabolites.

Why are there so many chemicals not involved into organism’s primary metabolism?
A
Compounds with multiple functions and multiple compounds with the same function.

Why do some groups of organisms have more secondary metabolites than others?
A
They have less physical traits for surviving, so they have to survive without physical traits. With interactions, they must interact chemically since they cannot approach other individuals.
