012 Transmission and epidemiology of virus Flashcards
What is latrogenic infection?
When one acquires a disease during treatment e.g. MRSA
How are papillomavirus transmitted?
Skin to skin contact
What is an endemic?
When there is multiple or continuous chains of transmission resulting in continuous occurence of disease in population of limited region.
What is incidence?
The proportion of population contracting that infection or disease during a specified period (usually a year and expressed as a ratio)
What is prevalence?
Proportion of population infected at a specified point in time
What are epidemics?
When there are peaks of disease in which incidence exceeded the expected rate of that particular infectious disease.
What are pandemics?
Worldwide epidemics.
What is the incubation period?
The interval between infection and onset disease.
