011 Innate Immunity Flashcards
What does the pentraxin family of plasma proteins do?
C reactive protein - help inflammation and assist in phagocytosis
Which tissues/cells are toll like receptors found?
Toll like receptors are found only on immune cells
Which tissues/cells are transmembrane proteins within endosomal membranes found?
Found in all tissue cells in the body
Which TLR reacts with LPS?
TLR4
Which TLR reacts with DNA?
TLR9
What is the function of NOD like receptors and where are they found?
These receptors are found in the cytoplasm - they detect the intracellular PAMPS and activate cytoplasmic complex called the inflammasome.
What is the main role of IL1
Inflammation
What is the main role of IL6
B cell differentiation into plasma cells
What is the systemic acute phase response?
The recruitment of cytokines that induce changes in plasma protein levels in the liver, which adjust thermostatic regulation of the hypothalamus to cause the fever.
How does innate activation of IL1 occur?
This is a pre-existing protein. Innate immune responses of Nod-like receptors lead to activation of multiprotein inflammasome that cleaves IL1. This secretes IL1.
What is the regulatory cytokine?
IL10
What is Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome?
When there is a deficiency in the enzyme that clear up nucleic DNA. Innate immune response detect self molecules which then cause autoimmunity.
Which immune response do we see most in acute infections?
Neutrophils
Which immune response do we see most in chronic infections?
T-cells
