Many old buildings Change still taking place Terraced housing and high rise flats built as these take up less space Lack of good quality open space such as parks Slum housing Derelict land Old declining industry High unemployment
Inner Suburbs
Cities spread out and suburbs created as transport improved and became cheaper.
Semi-detached with larger gardens
Cheaper house prices but desirability of housing makes some areas more expensive
Outer Suburbs
Near the edge of the city
Contains some larger, modern, detached homes and housing estates
Retail parks built over time
Large supermarkets and chain stores
Businesses have also moved to this zone to make use of good transport links
Schools, places of worship
Home to commuters who need access to the CBD along main roads and railways
The rural urban fringe
Found at the edge of a town or city and is where town meets country
Mixed land use such as golf courses, housing, airports
CBD - Central Business District
Functions - Shops, Entertainment, offices
Traditionally needed to be accessible and in central positions so that they could attract enough customers and workers
High/multi storey buildings
Expensive land values
Department stores
Shopping malls
Cultural/historical buildings such as castles and museums
