Transport Developments in Edinburghs CBD Flashcards
Bus lanes - greenways
Every major road into the CBD now has a bus lane/Greenways - meaning that at rush hours all vehicles are permitted to be in the inner bus lane so that buses are therefore much faster than cars and it is then hoped that people will use public transport
One way systems
Introduced to try to alleviate traffic congestion eg in Charlotte Square, St Andrews Square
Princes Street mainly open to buses and taxis - alleviating congestion - makes a more pleasant shopping environment
Queen street has become major area for taking banned vehicles from Princes St
Parking restrictions
Many parts of the CBD and inner city restricted to permit holder paring only to discourage people from using their cars
New Tram System

Park and Ride Schemes
Park and Ride Schemes - Several, latest at Straiton, Newcraighall and Sherriffhall - these have been introduced to encourage the use of public transport
