Transport in Mumbai Flashcards
Solutions to traffic congestion
Monorail - Transport links above ground so others can still use the ground level and it is above the flooding
Police introducing fines for poor driving
Imprisonment for drunk driving - worse due to cultural and religious reasons
Skywalks - Designed to link stations and avoid busy interchanges - helps pedestrians
Metro - Air conditioned and clean intended to relive traffic and supplement the already overcrowded train system
Effectiveness of methods used to control transport issues
20000 people used the monorail in the first month. There is high demand for them and does not connect to CBD currently.
Safety issues with skywalks. Women only use them when with others. Many people still walk on the ground underneath them and cross busy roads anyway.
Metro will not be complete until 2021 where it will connect the North with the CBD
Transport issues

Too many methods - Buses, Taxis, Rickshaws, ox carts and pedestrians
