AO1 Localisation of Function
Certain key functions of the brain have certain areas where they can grow
What is does contralateral mean?
The left hemisphere controls right side of the body, and vice a versa
AO1 Motor Cortex
Voluntary muscle movement across the body; front of the two parts top middle of brain
AO1 Somatosensory Cortex
Retrieves sensory information from the body; back of the two parts top middle of brain
AO1 Broca’s Area
Located in front left lobe only, speech production. Furthest forward of middle three parts of brain
AO1 Wernicke’s Area
Located in left hemisphere only, speech comprehension. Back of three middle parts of brain
AO1 Auditory Cortex
Receives and processes sounds information from ears, in both hemispheres, middle of brain
AO1 Visual Cortex
Processes visual information; eyes in the back of your head
