Working model of memory Flashcards
Who devised the working model of memory? Why?
Baddeley and Hitch, thought the STM of multi-store model was too vague
3 Distinct things about the Central Executive?
1) Limited supply
2) Directs attention to particular tasks
3) Data arrive into it from the SR or LTM
3 Distinct things about the Phonological loop?
1) Limited supply
2) Deals with auditory information
3) Holds audio like an inner ear and repeats words like an inner voice
3 Distinct things about the Visuo-spacial sketchpad?
1) Limited capacity
2) Handles visual and spacial information
3) Helps plan-out special tasks
3 Distinct things about the Episodic buffer?
1) Limited capacity
2) Holds information that relates to both audio and visual / spacial
3) This sends information to the LTM
How does Dual-Tasking work?
At least one of the two tasks must be “simple”, and they most use two different modalities. The C.E. gets involved with the difficult task.
How do brain damaged patients prove the working model of memory?
KF lost phonological loop function and not visuo-spacial sketchpad function post-accident.
Problem with using brain damaged patients?
Their brains are damaged and so may work differently to a non-damaged brain.
