strain theory, thats not everyone can have the same opportunitities, but everyone desires success some people dont gain qualifications and end up in dead end jobs, their opportunities are BLOCKED most people conform but other turn to crime

lower w/c boys want to succeed but cannot achieve goals due to cultural deprivation leads to education failure, turn to crime to achieve sucees, some subcultures value crime as they have nothing else to loose
