cultural hybridity - due to gloablisation, young people can now chose styles from global cultures and apply them to local values e.g. white rastas dont have similar values and adopt similar styles
What did cashmore do?
rap picked up by many variations of original rap, youth cultures draw upon different global elements and adopt them to local ethnic circumstances
What did gilroy do?
people who have left their place or origin have links there but also adopt these to new enviroment, for gilroy subcultures are a mix of their cultural origin and present circumstances
What did willis do?
wider range of style and task, so youths have lots of ways to define their identity, therefore too much diversity these days for one dominant subculture
