why did Edward IV face opposition as king?
-major nobles like Somerset still supported Henry VI
- Margret and Henry still expected aid from Scotland and France

-in 1462, Edward ordered the execution of the Earl of Oxford and his son after Lancastrian plots were discovered
-Edward was generous to Lancastrians, especially Henry Beufort and Somerset and Sir Ralph Henry , giving them castles
what was the Lancastrian rebellion?
-1462-63. on October 25th Margret and her army of 800 rode up to the castle of Bamburgh, Dunstanugh and Alwick, they opened up their gates to her and Yorkist control was gone in Northumberland.
-news got to Edward quickly that Margret fled to Scotland while she left her men to get captured or killed
-on the 24th December, castles Danbugh and Dunstanugh surrendered due to lack of supply’s

-24th June, Margret and Louis XI settled on a treaty that gave Margret aid and in return Margret promised vital hold of Calais
- this fell short however because it became clear that Louis XI wasn’t getting Calais

-1463, After sir Ralph Henry led the Lancastrians back to Bamburgh and Dunstanugh castle in April, Henry, Margret and James III led a siege to border the fortress of Northam on Tweed.
-Edward managed to raise a grant of taxation from parliament to raise an army against the scots but failed to complete the bargain to Warwick and Montagu confronted the scots so they fled

- Henry VI was captured in July, Henry was captured near clitheroe in Lancashire and imprisoned at the towers of London

-in September 1464 it was discovered that Edward had married Elizabeth Woodville
- he had been married to her since may but didn’t tell Warwick who was planning a marriage in France
-it was discovered that the Woodville family were Lancastrians, Elizabeth’s late husbands had fought on there side.
