Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. (1 John 3:7)

The substantive adjective (think substance) modifies an understood noun or pronoun and is virtually the same as an attributive adjective. The noun it modifies is implied
The good die young
the dead, the righteous
A predicate adjective is part of a complete sentence which asserts something about the subject of a copulative verb (couples things eimi, givomai. If no article in front of adjective, eimi is implied
Τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν; ὁ νόμος ἁμαρτία;
what shall we say? That the law is sinful?
χωρὶς γὰρ νόμου ἁμαρτία νεκρά
apart from the law, sin is dead.
