X's Flashcards
1
Q
x-rays
A
A type of electromagnetic radiation (a form of energy with wavelike behavior that travels at speed of light). The short wavelength and high frequency of x-rays allows them to penetrate many objects and to be useful for medical imaging. X-rays are a form of ionizing radiation and are carcinogenic; exposure to x-rays should always be “as low as reasonably achievable” (ALARA).
2
Q
x-ray film
A
Consists of a transparent sheet (base) coated with an emulsion containing silver halide crystals which are sensitive to x-rays, visible light, heat, and pressure.
