Wound healing Flashcards
What are labile cells?
Normally continuous turnover, go into cell cycle automatically
What are stable cells?
Normally little proliferation, but capable
What are permanent cells?
Not capable of regeneration, heal by scarring
What are the features of the inflammation phase of wound healing?
- Clot formation 2. Chemotaxis 3. Occurs in the first week
What are the features of the proliferation phase of wound healing?
- Re-epithelialization 2. Angiogenesis and granulation tissue 3. Provisional matrix 4. Occurs around the second week
What are the features of the maturation phase of wound healing?
- Collagen deposition 2. Wound contraction 3. Occurs around the third week
What is the major regulatory molecule of angiogenesis?
VEGF
What cell makes VEGF?
Macrophage
What is the major stimulatory molecule of fibrogenesis?
TGF beta
What cell makes TGF beta?
Macrophage
What are the features of early granulation tissue?
Numerous macrophages, myofibroblasts, blood vessels
What are the features of late granulation tissue?
Less vascular, only scattered macrophages with more matrix and fibroblasts
What is the process of granulation tissue maturation?
Cicatrization
What is cicatrization?
Granulation tissue maturation - collagen deposition, contraction, devascularization
Wound contraction is a result of the action of which cells?
Myofibroblasts
