Workshops- Data Flashcards
Total response output
All recorded ethinic groups are reported.
Weaknesses of total response
reported ethnicities can exceed the NZ population
difficulties comparing groups due to overlapping
Strengths of total response
self identification
can represent people that do not identify with a group
Prioritizing output
allocating a prioritized group to a population
strength of Prioritizing output
small ethnic groups will not get swamped
weaknesses of Prioritizing output
goes against self identification
priority group that the individual highlights may not be what they identify with the most

calculations for Crude death rate
no of death rates/#no of population
Age specific calculations
no of deaths in age group/ #no of age population
Expected death in population
age specific death rate X standard population
Age standardized death rate within population
Sum of expected death in population / Sum of standard population
Haddon Matrix effectiveness
how well does intervention work when applied
looking at literacy and accessing the efficacy of the intervention
looking at local areas which have had the intervention implemented
Haddon Matrix cost
Cost of enforcing?
evaluating the cost of implementing the intervention
who is going to bear the cost
Haddon Matrix Freedom
Extent to which the freedom of a particular group is compromised can result in resistance to the intervention
who loses or gains freedom in the application of the intervention/ policy
this can be addresses by general surveys and personal feedback
eg: gun law introduction: those who are in favor have a increased freedom
whilst those who are against have decreased freedom
Haddon Matrix Equity
Horizontal: treating people equally or in a universal manner
Vertical equity: inequal treatment of unequally situated individuals so that they are more equal in respect to a particular attribute
Haddon Matrix Feasibility
Considered last
Whether the implementation of policy or intervention is actually possible.
It can shown in the following
Political- is it in favor or not
technological- is it able to be made or not
Organization- is it affordable to be implemented
Public demands can dictate the feasibility
Haddon Matrix Stigmatization
intervention should not stigmatize in process of serving other purposes, unless it is appropriate
can either benefit or have a negative impact on a group or person
eg: negative: low income children asking for assistance.
Positive: sex offenders needing to be identified
