Define workplace relations
Is the area of the business that managers the relationship between employer and employees. It commonly managers issues related to wages, working conditions and complaints.

Define the Fair Work Commission
Is Australia’s independent workplace relations tribunal. An aspect of their role is to hear unfair and unlawful dismissals.
Define employee associations
Organisations that represent and offer advice to employers with workplace relation issues.
-This includes negotiation of new wage agreement.
Define unions
Organisations that cover a whole industry that offer advice to employees of those industries while representing them.
-This includes the support and representation of employees in disputes.
Define Human Resource Manager
A person within the business who is responsible for managing the relationship between employees and the business.
-They may help in training and development of employees.
What is the role of employees in workplace relations?
- Continue to work and achieve business objectives
- Negotiate new agreements (improve wages and working conditions).
- Vote on new agreements
- Take industrial action if required.
Define salary
Is the payment to an employee for work over a period of time. This time is usually on a monthly basis and is for part-time and full-time workers.
Define wage
Is the payment to an employee for work after a shift has been complete. This is usually for casual workers.
Define awards
A legal document that outlines the minimum wage and conditions for a particular industry. Employees cannot be treated below those standards.
