tennis = played in suburban gardes as a social occasion, not too mauch physicality, could play in modest clothing and be sheltered by their gardens
athletics = track and field outfits not suitable,, involvement occoured when AAA set up

- WW1 = men fighting and women taking over roles
- Suffragette movement = women has right to vote
- Working class = little oppotunity and expected to work and have domestic roles = little free time
- middle/ upper = expected to be lady like, strict dress code, myths about physical activity harming ability to reproduce, financially dependent on men

- more free time due to more carrer options as in 1775 Sexual Discrimination Act and more child care
- more disposable income = more money on equiptment

1969 - first WFA meeting
1971 - first womans FA cup
1972 - first international vs Scot
1991 - WFA launched 24 clubs in a national leauge
2002 - england = top participants for girls and women
2011 - FA womens super leauge replaced Prem ( elete leauge )
2012 - olympics - team GB reached quarter finals
2020 - startegey to give every school girl same oppotuities as boys to play
2022 =
- home euros win at wembly
- media rights increased 3x
- more leauges formed to reach demand
- rolemodels created eg: chloe Kelly
- 600mill fuding for afterschool clubs

Hostile attitudes from men
- feel uncomfortable and intimidated by abuse
Sexism
- female referees mistakes get more attention and abuse
Lack of organisation
- less training = fewer qualify
Lack of rolemodels
- no one to look up to = less motivated and confidant

how has growth occoured
gameplan for growth = many sponsors and very popular eg: deliveroo
- more female referees = increased rolemodels
- more females on fifa list - inspiring, can referree at the highest levels ( raising standard)
- referee pathway - structure in place to follow = more oppotunities
- respect campeign - more confidant less worried about discrimination
FEAMLES IN TENNIS
- WTA founded by Bille jean King
- elete tennis started to take place suring the open era when pros and amatures had more people to play against
- wimbledon 2007 = equal pay
- most visable womens sport
- large sponsorship deals
WOMEN IN ATHLETICS
- women not involved in olympics till 1900 but still not involved in athletics
- womens world games in 1920’s to compensate for lack of international athletics
- very sucessfull = athletics introduced up untill 800m 4 years later
- women lacked some events for a while eg: hammer throw
- diamond leauge = equal pay
- equal prizes for competition but men have more competitions
