rationalism and empiricism
Acquiring knowledge-simple

scienceAuthorit cons
fake authorities, testimonials, authorities may be wrong or relying on bad sources
Authority pros
some things can’t be known through other means, trust people all the time to get on with daily lives, takes too long to know everything
Intuition pros
tends to be beneficial, reduces cognitive load
intuition cons
common sense is often wrong,
Rationalism pros
leads to the truth if premises are correct
rationalism cons
how do we determine what premises are correct?, what if two people arrive at diff conclusions, some things you can’t rationalize
Empiricism pros
gives us a way to check our premises and conclusion, observation serves as a way to develop premises, allows for brute force checks
Empiricism cons
not everything can be observed, impossible to observe all instances, doesn’t mean all future instances will happen that way
Empiricism
relying on observation to acquire knowledge
