perceptions of self that are largely influenced by social cognitions that vary according to context
Halo effect
positive qualities cluster together
Schemas
patterns of thought that organise our experiences and knowledge
Stereotypes
represent characteristics assigned to a person based on their membership in a specific group
Prejudice
involves judging others based on a stereotype
discrimination
acting negatively toward a person
Authoritarian person
tendency to hate people who are different
Explicit racism
involves conscious use of stereotypes and the expression of prejudice
implicit racism
unconscious influence of stereotypes towards members of a racial group
