How did fear of communism cause the Nazi Party to grow?

A

The Spartacists had tried to take over in the years before WW1. This alarmed the middle class and wealthy Germans who didn’t want to lose their money or place in society.

Communists were anti-religion which worried church-goers.

1917: Communist Revolution in the USSR.
Hitler responded by sending his stormtroopers to fight Communist gangs.
This helped his gain support for dealing with that threat.

How did Nazi structure help the Nazi Party grow?

A

Nazi Party offices were set up all ove Germany to recruit more followers.

100,000 men in the SA by 1931.
400,000 men by 1932.

Propaganda through broadcast, cinema and news reports. Printed millions of leaflets and posters.

Parades and speeches showed Nazi power.

Hitler Youth was set up to encourage young followers.

1923: used an aeroplane to 20 cities in 7 days to take electioin speeches.

Used radio, which showed Hitler’s touch with modern life.

A

Hitler had a charasmatic personality and could make him seem trustworthy.
He was a powerful, inspiring speaker who filled his audiences with hope.
He could move them to economic recovery by persuading them his ruling is better than hopeless unemployment.

How did the SA help the Nazi Party grow?

A

SA seemed to control the unrest on the streets by standing up to the Communists’ paramilitary force.
Their use of fear and violence to disrupt meetings and rallies, destroy publicity material and beat up immediate opposition candidates effectively sabotaged opposition parties.
