German Reactions to the ToV - WR Flashcards

1
Q

How did Germans react to the Treaty of Versailles?

A

Some Germans felt that it was too harsh.
The Treaty took away large areas of land which meant losing people, lines, factories and farms.
They had to pay a large amount of money to the winners which made many Germans humiliated.

Some Germans believed that Germany could have carried on fighting. They felt that the German politicians had betrayed the country by asking for ceasefire when the Kaiser left Germany in 1918.

Some Germans were outraged that the government were ordered to sign the treaty without any discussion. They called it a “diktat” which means disturbed peace.
