The givernment ran an extremely successful recruitment campaign
Men respnded to the poster of lord kitchener in particular as they felt he was pointing at them and his finger followed you around a room
Scotsmen joined uo to show loyalty to there local regiment
Many regiments drew from set local areas for example gorden highlanders from aberdeen
Some scots where encouraged to joing up in a pals betalion
Pals betalion was a promis that where posible men from the same local area, workplace or group of freinds would serve in the army together
Many scots volunteered because they where poor or unemployed
Army pay was not much but better then what they where earning at home and this encouraged many men.
Men got caried away with enthusiasm
The idea of leaving home and going abroud with a bug group of freinds was exciting and the idea of an adventure encoraged many men to enlist
Many men also felt pressure to enlist
Pressure often came from family and freinds aswell as government propaganda. Scots felt ashamed not to have joined the army and thought there family wsd disapointed in them.
