Balance of population changed
56% of slaves where adult males and the rest young fit women and children. Lack of people left to farm land led to famine and a huge decrese in population.
Organisation between African states and kingdoms changed
Chiefs and Middlemen stopped following traditional customs and used slavory as a way of ridding law breakers, people in debt and those who opposed them
Traditional settlements where affected in Africa
Over 150 slave castles where built along the coast and villages where destroyed in raids. Only those by slave ports thrived due to trade with British ships.
The African economy was upset
Cheifs and middlemen made profit whilst local businesses and farming colapsed due to lack of workers and competition with cheap british goods
Balance of power changed between African states and kingdoms
States and kingdoms went to war with eachothet in order to keep up with demand for slaves. Number of raids and kindnappings increased and cheifs turned armys againsy there own people.
How was employment in Africa impacted?
Jobs where available and needed for those willing to support the trade. Jobs where available in farming, port services and prison guards. These kept the trade successful.
