explain why the enabling act ended democracy in germany Flashcards
Cencorship of all media was introduced along with the ability to read mail and tap phone calls legaly
This brought an end to democracy as newspapers, radio and cinema could only promote nazi ideology
Nazis took controll of the workplace
Trade unions where band in order to increase hitlers control over the workforce. Strikes where banned
Regional and state level governments where closed down
This meant the nazis had complete control of the country and had ‘reconstructed’ local governments by april 1933
The act gave the nazis ability to open the first concentration camp Dachau
This ended democracy as anyone who didnt support there veiws wjere sent there
The act allowed hitler to make laws without consulting the reichstag for the next 4 years
This allowed him to turn germany into a dictation ship and one party state
Enabling act also banned politocal opposition
The spd was banned in june 1933 and all other political partys less than a month later. Nazis where the only legal party which ended democracy as germans lost the right to hold public meetings and ultimately have an opinion
