When was the term adolescence used?
The first use of the term is unknown, but the word first appeared in print in London police-court reports in 1894 referring to the name of a gang of youths in the Lambeth area of London - the Hooligan Boys
How was childhood extended?
Extended childhood being through schooling and protective legislation (e.g. Factory Act, 1833)

What is the definition of Teddy Boy?
Teddy Boy (also known as Ted) is a British subculture typified by young men wearing clothes that were partly inspired by the styles worn by dandies in the Edwardian period
Who were the first group to differentiate themselves as teenagers?
Although there had been youth groups with their own dress codes called scuttlers in 19th Century Manchester and Liverpool, Teddy Boys were the first youth group in England to differentiate themselves as teenagers, helping create a youth market
Some Teds formed gangs and gained notoriety following violent clashes with rival gangs which were often exaggerated by the popular press.. How was this violence sensationalised?
