Casting bodies

A

Giuseppe Fiorelli recognized skeletons under the ash, he poured in plaster to make the gas from the bodies escape. this made a hard shell in the ash humanizing the victims.

Was close to the entrance of the city, it was originally thought to be a Greek township, but recent discoveries have found the city to be much older.

Pompeii had two theaters, the larger one is a older one, it is built in the Greek style, the one next to it was smaller and it was built in the roman style.

First Pompeian style

A

the style consisted of large blocks of color to look like bricks, the colors were bright, often different sizes, the artist was trying to achieve the look of the house of Cupid and psyche, was made to look like you you were wealthy.

has the inclusion of artificial architecture, showing an illusion of a portico, separating them with pillars. walls were aslo shown to display windows and larger buildings to maintain the illusion of grandeur.

The house of the Vetii

A

has some of the best preserved wall paintings, located in the wealthy area of Pompeii, the house was owned by two brothers Aulus Vettius Conviva and Aulus Vettius Restitutis, they had it remodeled, there was quite a bit of natural light in the villa. Most of the images on the wall was form mythology, mostly about Hercules.

The house of the Faun

A

Stayed in the hands of Greeks, was about 3000 square foot, had a faun because of the connection to Dionysus (Greek mythology), Had very detailed mosaics which were very greek, most paintings had some sort of connection to Dionysus. Their other atrium had a more tetrastyle. They had a Mosaic of Alexander the great, other mosaics show domestic animals.

Most of the richest wanted their villa outside the city, suburban villa had a different construction when compared to urban villas, it had more of a second style, depicting larger people on the wall
