week 7 - cardiovascular system Flashcards
what makes up the CVS ?
heart, arteries, veins, capillaries
3 types of arteries ?
elastic, muscular, arteriole
3 types of veins ?
large, medium, venules
what is the lymphatic system ?
- connected to CVS via nervous system
- component of immune system
- carry lymph fluid via lymph vessel
what is the tunicae of blood vessels ?
tunica adventita (outer) -> tunica media -> tunic intima (inner)
3 types of capillaries ?
continuous, fenestrated (pores), sinusoid (incomplete)
what is vasa vasorum ?
vessel within vessel
what is vasa nervi ?
vessel in nerve
what is nervi vasorum ?
nerve in vessel
what are the layers of heart ?
epicardium (outer) -> myocardium -> endocardium (inner)
what are the 4 heart valves ?
semi-lunar valve
- pulmonary valve (R ventricle -> pulmonary trunk)
lunar valve
- aortic valve (L ventricle -> aorta
atrioventricular valves
- tricuspid (R atrium-> R ventricle)
- bicuspid/mitral (L atrium -> L ventricle)
what are the 2 parts of the respiratory muscle ?
upper -> nasal cavity, pharnyx, larnyx
lower -> trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli
describe respiratory muscle epithelium
pseudo stratified ciliated column epithelium w/goblet cells
what do olfactory nerves run through ?
cribiform plate of ethmoid
describe the flow of blood in the heart
deoxygenated blood enters via SVC & IVC & coronary sinus -> right atrium -> right ventricle -> pulmonary artery -> lungs
AND
oxygenated blood enters via pulmonary veins -> left atrium -> left ventricle -> aorta -> body
